Runnable interface/protocol

Can someone explain to me the difference between the langchain interface and protocol. for me interface is something that has the methods signatures and properties(no implementation), that the classes using the interface must implement. whereas protocol is something that defines how different components communicate with each other. So what exactly is runnable protocol.

1. Is it the use of pipe method.
2. The use of invoke, stream, batch methods without mentioning the runnable interface (as some languages use the keyword implements to show that it is using the interface).
3. Invoke, batch, stream methods have some implementation in the interface and the component just use them with out mentioning the runnable interface.
4. python and typescript have some difference like async method not available in typescript. and python have flexible interfaces. so please do explain considering both the languages
