Hello, I would like to know if it would be possible to have a feature to darkens the widescreen areas, similar to what exists on bsnes-hd ?
This option is very useful when the widescreen is not perfect : you still can play widescreen but any bug/pop/glitch appearing in the darken areas does not alter the gameplay and does not prevent to progress in the game compared to full widescreen with such pop-up/bug/glitches :
Thank you very much !

Hello, well thank you very much! I was getting desperate to get a response to my question so I only read your answer today, sorry.
I am glad to see your proposal, but I have 2 questions:
Is it the pastebin link in the other thread that I should copy?
I'm already using a shader (which normally doesn't consume too much resources): on retroarch/or using a file, how can I overlay the shader of the darkened areas with the classic shader?
Sorry, I did not understood that the overlay workaround was also proposed : it solves my issue to use my favorite shader while playing with darken bars.
Just to be sure : where to put the cfg file please (path) ? Thank you very much !
