This PR is mainly meant to address in the simplest way possible the issue #303, but we could also use it for a general reworking of Mbs that I think will be necessary at some point. We could merge it quickly, so that the alms are available for #183 and #170 in the master, and then keep the branch alive for further development. If we opt of this solution, we just need some documentation and we can merge.
