I think this documentation should contain:

• A tutorial, with code examples and an associated package, on how to add a new dummy product type.
• A how-to guide for any individually common scenarios that occur with custom products that exist outside the tutorial
• An explanation of the core API of the custom product extension points
• Links to an API reference for the Magento Codebase.
