NOTABLES
- This is great project that makes standing up a personal, home use MC server so easy.
Original author (kicker22004) did a bang up job. plus plus.
They did lot of work into figuring things out for install and management of
multiple server types too.
It has inspired me to make "re-implemtation" from my knowledge gained during cleanup.
I will see when I get to it. Work and COVID-19 keeps me busy.
I have ideas around:
- modular shell scripts, allowing for a more "plug-in" like features (todo.txt inspired)
- this will allow for install dependences to be only necessary for installable server types
- this would abstract CLI from GUI/Whiptail for those who prefer it (and make it easier
to do on you mobile phone's SSH terminal from the couch when kids ask.)
- look to extend with "plugins" / features
- may require a simple user/group empowerment to allow in-game commands for those without OP
for things like "kits", changing time/weather, cloned user data as template (necessary
to embue player with an enderchest of filled shulker chests)
- "kits" in Vanilla - yup. I have all kinds of themed kit ideas: farm-in-box,
village-in-a-box, "Jobs": Warrior, Alchemist, Ranger, MegaMiner, starter/apprentice
- need to investigate triggering kits/bonuses based on levels or achievements
- investigate possibility of commerce (tracked & managed outside of vanilla)
- more likely possibly with Bedrock given its Javascript extensibility
- further abstration of
- variables, ex. /opt/BSCC/ is hard coded throughout
- allowance for non-root users to install and run MC server
(server deps and /opt/BSCC prevent that)
- possible configuration of multiple servers running at the same time
- server engine drop-in start with Vanilla, Bedrock, Spigot
- allows for additional commands specific to server engine types (like Spigot)
- server engine drop-in allow for Spigot mods to be added separately
- continue some "kludgy" things (like avoiding rsyslog) so it can be ran
in WSL on Windows 10 -- yes, BSCC runs in Debian on Windows 10 (cron, not so much)
- Clean up work was by hand using Geany due to its features:
- symbol / function tree navigation (a big help)
- un/tab selected blocks
- color syntax highlighter
(why Geany? I don't have time to learn emacs, there's no easy shell script pretty printer
and learned a lot of how the author was doing things.)
