What does this indicator measure?

Definition: GDP refers to the total value of all goods and services produced annually by a territory (administrative level 2). The indicator of GDP Per Capita is used to approximately determine the prosperity of a territory by its population.

Numerator: GDP of the territory

Denominator: Total population of the territory.

  • National census
  • National bank or financial institution statistics.
  • World Bank database.

Comments and limitations: The GDP per capita have been criticized for not being an adequate measure of prosperity because it doesn’t account inequality . Other measures as Gini coefficient can be used to cover this problem.
