Understanding Core Behavior

Matheus Clemente edited this page Aug 14, 2023 · 5 revisions

This article covers features that are default behavior of Foundry VTT to avoid misunderstandings about how the module works.

Actor Permissions

If a player has Owner/Observer permission for a character, they will be able to read messages as that character.

Beware of having extra characters with known languages with Owner/Observer permission, such as party-friendly NPCs or player-controlled NPC.

Out of Character vs In Character

If a user has an assigned actor and their actor has a token in the current scene's map, they will speak "In Character": the message's sender will be the actor.

Otherwise, the user will be speaking "Out of Character": the message's sender will be the user.

Default Behavior

By default, Polyglot only scrambles:

  • Out of Character messages sent by the GM.
  • In Character messages sent by the players.

Both behaviors can be changed under the Scramble OOC Chat Messages setting.
