Same problem.
yo creates a directory .yo-repository
mendix-generator cannot handle that
yo version 3.1.1
node version 12.16.2
npm version 6.14.4

edit file
C:\Users<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules\generator-mendix\generators\app\index.js
and edit line 75 of that file so it looks like in the screenshot in @huyuan1307 's comment
