I know there have been a few other questions in this vein, but I want to get to the core issue—what does Microsoft want out of Sudo for Windows, what do they want it to be?
I love the idea of a first-party Sudo built directly into Windows, but why bother when gsudo already exists? Does Microsoft plan to eventually add all the features offered in gsudo to this project—if so, why not just fork/sponsor it and get a head start? Or, do they intentionally want not to bring over all the features it has, keep it more limited—in which case... why?
The fact gsudo is even mentioned on the Sudo for Windows documentation just makes this all even more confusing, and actually seems to suggest the latter possibility—that there are no plans to make Sudo for Windows as feature-rich as gsudo is. If that's the case, why should anyone bother with this project at all?
