[feature request] mc - prevent update checks config and env var (GDPR problem) #5090

mc leaks the ip the users ip address to the update server. according the eu/GDPR the ip address is defined as personal data. so it should not be leaked without consent (would require an opt-in). i understand that not many companies care about that and nowadays you must be happy if they even allow you to opt-out.

so i kindly ask you to provide an MC_ENABLE_UPDATE_CHECK or at least MC_DISABLE_UPDATE_CHECK.

hi, can you provide more information, which command is running with leaked ip address, please

I think this falls under "legitimate interests", but not going to argue legal stuff here.

From next release you can set MC_UPDATE=off.
