As an answer to this question, I did some exploration. We cribbed this file pretty much directly from Compass [editors note: without attribution! Bad Kyle]. Essentially what we have is two directional hide-text possibilities. For the most part, people should always use the default one cuz it works and it's lightweight. When that doesn't work, you can use the other direction. And that's fine too.
Squish Text is the awesomest one because it doesn't push the text anywhere, it just collapses it. But it doesn't work in Android 4.2 and under. So no dice for us. We should deprecate that.

This mixin seems to be in a pretty confused state. Is it still the best method for text replacement? Why is there an orphan squish text mixin in here?
