In a drop down list with suggestions sometimes characters I type get lost

In the BBMRI catalogue there are several forms that use drop down lists that fill with data items from other tables. You can type part of the name to find them. However when I type text sometimes some characters get lost. I see this issue for instance on the 'Institutes' field when adding a new biobank.

e.g. I type "Erasmus" but will end up with "Ermus"

This happens to me a lot as well in AnimalDB, especially on big lists sets. I think it has to do with the speed of the javascript and/or ajax calls. for every character the a query is fired to the db, obviously we type faster than the box can filter, hence it somehow looses input...
