Could this be used for resizing a virtual machine?

I am trying to poll xrandr to match the current resolution with the new resolution of a virtual machine, which has been resized. I want to poll xrandr because I have a statusbar that does not automatically adjust to the new resolution and thus need to set the statusbar to use the newly resized resolution. Thanks!

You know, I never tried in a vm, however in my experiences, if you have guest additions in virtualbox the resolution should adjust pretty automatically. Let me know if you ended up trying it.
