This tools allows an optional coordinate system to be set when the input layer does NOT have a projected coordinate system. If the input layer does not have a projected coordinate system and no output projection is specified by the user, a default projection WGS 1984 Web Mercator is applied. This is the same as the 'Find Vertex Problem' tool.
However, when the default projection is applied to a non-projected layer the results are different then when the same layer is projected. When I ran a test on wi025 in WGS84 vs AEA, the results were different for the measured fields (Acres, average segment or minimum segment. This should be explored some more and perhaps a projected coordinate system, such as AEA, should be set as default as long as the datums are the same OR only allow projected layers to be inputted.
