Pitch

Don't show duplicate post boosts on public timelines

Motivation

Seeing the same post boosted multiple times is too noisy for public timelines

* Showing all federated boosts is noisy while local boosts may be acceptable (especially once #4 is addressed)

Two options and I can't decide which I prefer:

  • Collapse all boosts into the most recent entry; could add an "also boosted by" tag or similar with pfps
  • Ignore all boosts after the first; least spammy and most like original timeline behavior (one message per post) instead of a notification (brought to the top each time its boosted)

I think we should ignore all boosts after the first for now, and we can collapse boosts later if we want to (which I think would be much more user-friendly)

I'll work on this later, we don't use "show boosts on public timelines" ourselves, maybe better to work on something a bit more impactful for now :)

Well, yes and no. I want to enable this on our instance but it's too noisy. We had it enabled for a bit after the split feature was implemented but I got a couple complaints about it showing the same posts over and over again lol
