Introduction to Github project usage

The change to GitHub projects enables us to discuss topics in a more focused fashion than detailed issue-by-issue. Projects will give a general status update and can raise overarching questions into the discussion during the project team round.

• We removed the "C:" category labels (Model, Kernel, PyNEST, Documentation, ...) and instead now make use of corresponding GitHub projects.
• For each project we assigned a contact person that will take care of organizing work for that subset of cards.
• Also the "P:" progress labels have been removed (with the exception of "blocked" and "won't fix"), as this is automatically tracked in the columns of the projects and is much easier to manage there.

The detailed issue-by-issue work on the other hand, is organized by the project groups separately and each group may decide to do separate meetings to discuss details. The Kanban-like board gives a comprehensive view on the current topics and enables also these dedicated discussions to focus more easily.

Project team round

Here we discuss topics that need broader attention, for example questions that came up but are outside a single project's scope, larger planned changes/PRs that affect all teams or pending work that is blocked by external factors.

   • integration of membrane potential continues also during refractory period (#1097)

2. PyNEST

   • sunsetting python2 in progress (#1507/#1313)

3. Kernel

   • starting to organize work in project
   • looking for volunteers

4. Installation

   • starting to organize work in project
   • currently quite many issues/PRs
   • LD_LIBRARY_PATH changes
   • Arbor / Music switches for installation

5. Infrastructure

   • Upload Travis artifacts to S3? (in-depth)
     • build artifacts are uploaded for merge-commits (not useful for debuging)
     • additional option for uploading "failed" builds
     • need discussion if we want to proceed uploads

6. Documentation

   • many cards in review, awaiting last reviews
   • big merge coming up for update of model documentations
   • updates for Music/Arbor need someone to look at

7. EBRAINS

   • little incoming activity
   • merged #1429
   • need to establish better links to ebrains.eu support tickets (within the project)

8. (Feature) Random number generation

   • RNG PR #1549, explanation for changes and usage, please try give feedback to team
   • (maybe in-depth in a couple of meetings)

9. (Feature) Automated Testing

   • very little activity, more time this week
   • some issues may need reassignment between teams 'Installation', 'Automated Testing' and 'Infrastructure', which will be handled among the teams themselves, when necessary.

• Discussion about S3 upload of build artifacts was moved to a dedicated meeting tomorrow
