Add a license #487
Comments
It would be nice if the license attempted to do something to protect the list of signatories from being used in a negative way, such as being targeted by oppressive governments etc... |
Governments are often above the law. While you could put stuff in there to explicitly disallow crawling/contacting the authors, and a privacy policy about your letting users remove themselves (which IMHO, you don't really, since you're keeping history forever in Git repo 😢), there's nothing you can do about governments here. |
A public statement and list of signatures is data, not software. The statement itself may be copyrightable in your jurisdiction, but the list of signatories probably isn't, since it is a fact ("who signed?") and not a work of art. The software (templates, etc) which generates the website ought to have a license, even though it's fairly trivial. Let's just not get ahead of ourselves and imagine we can protect signatories with it or anything. |
The repo seems to be lacking a license. I suggest creating a LICENSE.md file with the appropriate licensing.
