Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install one or several of the voices available at https://borealium.org/en/category/voices/:
    1. Install Divvun Manager
    2. Install support for one of North, Lule or South Sámi - this will automatically also install the TTS components
  2. Open Windows settings > Screen reader, and select one of the installed voices - turn on the screen reader, and notice that it works - turn it off again
  3. Install NVDA
  4. Open Settings > Speech
  5. Change the Synthesizer to MS Speech API version 5

Actual behavior:

Notice how the newly installed voices are NOT available

Expected behavior:

All the installed Divvun Sámi voices should be available

NVDA logs, crash dumps and other attachments:

nvda-old.log

nvda.log

System configuration

NVDA installed/portable/running from source:

Installed.

NVDA version:

2024.4.2

Windows version:

Windows 10 Pro, 10.0.19045 build 19045

Name and version of other software in use when reproducing the issue:

Divvun TTS, as installed by Divvun Manager. See https://borealium.org/en/resource/voice-se-female/ for the North Sámi voice, or https://borealium.org/en/category/voices/ for a list of all voices available.

Other information about your system:

Virtual machine running in Parallels. The Windows screen reader works fine, so there should be no issues related to it being a VM.

Other questions

Does the issue still occur after restarting your computer?

Yes.

Have you tried any other versions of NVDA? If so, please report their behaviors.

No, only newest.

If NVDA add-ons are disabled, is your problem still occurring?

I have not tested any add-ons, only the default installation.

Does the issue still occur after you run the COM Registration Fixing Tool in NVDA's tools menu?

Not tested.

This is 64-bit voice only. Thatš why it only works with narrator.

When will NVDA support 64-bit voices?

@snomos - we are migrating to 64bit this year, we should have support in 2026.1
