Summary

Check to confirm!

Branding and Language

Programs

  • NYU Digital Humanities

Can be shortened to "NYU DH" ONLY
DO NOT: Use "NYU-DH", "NYUDH", or "DH@NYU"

  • NYU DH Graduate (Student???) Fellowships

    DO NOT: Use "Summer"

  • NYU DH (Faculty???) Seed Grants
  • NYU Advanced Certificate in Digital Humanities

DO NOT: Use "Digital Humanities and Social Sciences." "DHSS" is should never be used.

Cohorts and Committees

  • NYU DH Graduate (Student???) Fellows

    DO NOT: Use "Summer"
Cohorts are designated by one calendar year, e.g., 2022

  • NYU DH (Faculty???) Seed Grant Recipients

    Cohorts are designated by a span of 2 calendar years, e.g., 2022 – 2023

  • NYU DH Executive Committee
  • NYU Affiliated Teaching Faculty in Digital Humanities ???
  • NYU Graduate Students in Digital Humanities ??

Should ONLY be used for Advanced Certificate students

  • NYU Research & Instructional Technology ??

Can be shortened to "NYU RIT" ONLY
"NYU Research Technology" and "NYU RT" SHOULD NOT appear.

  • NYU Division of Libraries (preferred) NYU Libraries (okay)

Misc.

  • NEVER: Capitalize "digital humanities" outside of a program name ???
  • ALWAYS: Add NYU DH in front of NYU DH programs.

"NYU DH" can only be dropped if the full title (e.g., "NYU DH Seed Grants") has already appeared prominently on the page.

  • WHERE POSSIBLE: Scope your statements in time.

DO: "Applications open until March 10th, 2022"
    DON'T: "Apply now"

Styling and Markup

Content

  • NEVER: Use an h1 heading tag in a page or post's body content.

h1 is reserved for the page's title, which is generated in the hero from the yaml front matter.

  • AVOID: Using headings tags h5 and h6 wherever possible.
  • NEVER: Bold a link. Let the styles do their job.

Italics are okay if necessary, e.g., for a title.

  • ALWAYS: Wrap any yaml font-matter strings that contain ' or " in quotations.

This might belong in a different doc, but putting this 'playbook' type documentation here for now.

Update process for Course page

  • When to update course offerings for upcoming semester? Ideally before, or at the same time as the student enrollment window opens. So that's March for the Fall semester, and October for the Spring semester? (I made that up so someone please correct me!)
  • Core certificate course to include are self-explanatory, but how to identify which courses count as electives? Or at least should be listed on this page as elective? Via a search in Albert for DH?

The fellowships do not have summer in the name.

NYU Digital Humanities Graduate Fellowships
The participants are "Graduate fellows"

"NYU Digital Humanities" may be abbreviated as "NYU DH".

The Advanced Certificate is in Digital Humanities, not "Digital Humanities and Social Sciences."

"DHSS" is not an acronym that should ever appear.

@bmschmidt style/branding guide is now ready to edit here: https://github.com/nyu-dh/nyu-dh.github.io/blob/main/docs/style-guide.md

all content contribution and development workflows have documentation room elsewhere (see: README for structure) so this doc can focus on specific dos and don'ts for communications consistency
