E101 errors and no data

Love your work on this integration, thank you so much for putting in the time. I'm getting a bit frustrated here with my setup on an older Non-NASA model. I've gone over my cabling and everything seems in place but my Samsung control unit keeps throwing E101 errors when I connect up to the outside unit on F1 and F2. I've tried flipping contacts, double checking cabling and config but to no avail. Any tips from anyone trying this on an older aircon please?

Hi @Rebem13, can you tell us a little bit more about your hardware setup. I would guess there is something wrong on the hardware side here.

E101 is a general communications error so the outdoor unit didn't like my circuit wired in. I have ordered the M5Stack RS-485 device and will report back when I've tried it. Thanks for the response!

I’m using an Expressif ESP32-S3 Devkit with a MAX485 TTL to RS485 converter so could be hardware for me too.

Does your RS485 has an receiving LED? It should blink every few seconds.

I have an update now that I have the M5Stack RS485 combined with the Atom Lite. No further errors are thrown on the AC panels which is great, however I don't seem to have any discovered devices. I do see one yellow line in the log but the purple lines don't show a discovered device. I have tried using c4 and 20.00.00 but it makes no difference.

Two other things I've tried : my outdoor unit has F1 and F2 terminals which I tried but no luck. My indoor panel has F3 and F4 which I also tried and get the same result as above. Config is per the sample config. Any other ideas for me to try out please?

I thought that the baud rate is same for all units. It might be good idea to add this to documentation. Maybe section with tested devices could be useful.

It seems he has a Non NASA device. "Indoor: 20, 84". It seems that there are old devices with 9600 and some with 2400.

@Rebem13 you can ignore the error. I think I will remove that.

@bzumik1 it would be a good idea to add an comment to try 2400 if nothing happens with 9600.

Thanks - error ignored. I'm not seeing the device controllable in HA as yet but I will keep trying. Should I be using "20, 84" as the device number or 20 or 84?

No, I have an outdoor heat pump, an air handler in the roof and the controller on the wall. All part of the one system.

Interesting. The other Non NASA outdoor devices had 00 as address.

Witch one is your outdoor device? Only one of the address should work. The other must be the outdoor device.

I've configured both addresses and can't control them but one observation - I'm using F3 and F4 on the indoor wall controller so I might try F1 and F2 on the outdoor unit and see what happens. Thanks again! Will report back so others can benefit from the info.

Ah well yes. This code is designed to work with F1 and F2.

Maybe you need to switch back to 9600 baud then.

A further update. I connected up to F1 and F2 on the external unit, increased baud rate to 9600 and the c8 unit appeared. This was great but control was very random. I certainly couldn't change the mode and it appeared that I could turn the unit on and off but it seemed to move modes on its own. I've disconnected for the moment (it's a hot day here and we want the aircon on!) and will try another time. Overall though, I can contact it and for Non-NASA units it might need some tweaking but it works.
