on your supported formats page you should point out that VRT works really well. i have a vrt of raster tile gpkg files. they were rendered in chunks in a batch file in qgis. I dont yet have a single overview image which normally is the way to go with large VRT files so i control visibility by scale. only downside is that even though qfield reads .zip files , gpkg doesnt seem to yet support it.
