Need to figure out how to make installation packages & how all the awesome apps handle auto updates.

@nickstew have you tried any of these yet? I also read on electron-updater that

This project is in maintenance only mode. It is recommended that you use the electron-packager and electron-builder projects to generate complete installable versions of your applications and use either the OS specific stores or some other mechanism for distributing your installers.

Found a good list of tools and resources related to electron at awesome-electron. One of the packages in that list was electron-gh-releases and looks like it allows us to use github to host our release packages and have the auto-updater use the repo to figure out if it needs to update or not.
