I have searched the existing issues, open and closed, and I'm convinced that mine is new.
I have reported this problem to FRRouting, and am not sure whether it should have been reported to OPNsense.
In general terms, I have two OPNsense firewalls running OSPFv2 in different states, ARUBA 2930M MLS operating the InterVLAN routing, also running OSPFv2, and two more sites with ARUBA MLS, all interconnected with Carrier Ethernet circuits.
The OSPF communication and route propagation is happening across the network. On both firewalls' vtysh sessions show ip ospf database external 0.0.0.0 displays the two External LSAs with the forwarding addresses of both Internet connections. If I power down (or reboot) one of the firewalls all the devices quickly display the loss of the External LSA that corresponds to the firewall that was powered down.
In comparison, when I disable the WAN interface (or pull the fibers connecting to the ISP) none of the devices acknowledge the loss of the corresponding External LSA. Waited 1,2, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, nothing, the LSA does not dissapear even on the firewall being manipulated. There are no OSPF updates, locally nor across the network. I do see frr_carp events, but High Availability is not configured on these firewalls.
Some time between after the events in this log I disabled the WAN interface (Interfaces > WAN). There were no OSPF events triggered, nothing poped up on the log.
Besides watching the External LSAs on all network elements, checking the OSPF log (see below), what other things can I try, or even educate myself in?
