There are parts of the kernel that will refuse to mount filesystems if they were created with a pagesize different than the present pagesize.
btrfs is esp. bitten by this. Rescue images should probably provide both 4K & 64K pagesize kernels to deal with this concern.
btrfs was going to patch it, but at least as of 4.13.0 the patches have NOT landed: https://lwn.net/Articles/674865/
