We've discovered that the js TLD is a "non delegated" domain.

So all the ideas around buying an island aren't going to work.

Don't mind if I ask, but what are the implications of a 'non-delegated domain'?

I don't fully understand this wacky business, but...

.io is a delegated domain, which means it let's ICANN handle the heavy lifting (instead of a doing it themselves, with hardware physically localed inside their territory???).

So nic.io was able to make a deal with the British Indian Ocean Territory to create a new country TLD, since io was designated as a delegated domain, if it every where to come into existence.

A non-delegated domain isn't eligible for one of these scenarios.

Which begs the question... Can we get .js re-classified as a delegating domain?

(DNS/TLD gurus, please point out inaccurate statements I've made)

I'm not sure a non-delegated domain is a real thing. I mean, no domain could be delegated before it's created and AFAICT the .js domain hasn't been created yet.

There is no country abbreviation of "JS" so I don't think it would be difficult to get ICANN onboard. Here is a list of airport codes: http://www.world-airport-codes.com/alphabetical/country-abbreviations/j.html

Not many countries that start with "J" so that makes it easier.

I posted this under a different issue but from a reliable source comes "JS is not a reserved ISO country code; so they are free to apply for it. They have 6 days left to apply because the ICANN TAS system closes on May 30th…so we will see!"

All two-letter ASCII combinations are reserved for use as country codes, regardless of whether they are currently designated to a specific country in the ISO 3166-1 standard. This is to provide room for new countries that may be created in the future. For example, South Sudan (SS) that became a country this year, Curacao (CW) that became a country last year, or Montenegro (ME) that became a country about 5 years ago.

Let's convince Somaliland to change their name to Javascript and start a war. Kickstarter funds weapons.

(Sorry if anyone finds that joke offensive.)

ICANN sucks, the government subverts DNS, lets just make our own hacker DNS and the community and users in the know would just add it at a low priority to the their DNS servers.

We can then have cheap registrations of any untaken domain names. because they would only fall through if the domain wasnt taken.

"Every joke has a part of truth and a part of pain" Someone

I have a suggested 1st draft approach (I am really open to pivoting to other ideas):

According to:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sovereign_state#:~:text=International%20law%20defines%20sovereign%20states,relations%20with%20other%20sovereign%20states.

For a country we require:
1- A permanent population
2- A defined territory
3- One gvt
4- The capacity to enter into relations with other sovereign states

My case:
My name is Jose and I am an anarchist, this is my culture but not my political stance on government.
I would like to be recognized as a sovereign state, due to cultural discrepancies with every other country.

I claim to have:
1- A permanent population - Of 1 (me)
2- A defined territory - Of nothing (I can't have land, its against the culture)
3- One gvt - I am the absolute king of Jose, the king without land, which is an anarchist monarchy,
nobody cares that I am its king
4- The capacity to enter into relations with other sovereign states - I can but don't want to

With this said, I ask the UN, and the ICANN to make my domain .js delegatable as it represents my countries name, jose,
which is the only acceptable abbreviation of the name due to laws that have been passed by my gvt.

Also it would be a shame wink, wink if the js community, ignored that .js is owned by its landless king, and did whatever they wanted with it. A shame in the spirit of our culture.

If you got this far, I hope you laughed a bit
