Unless I'm mistaken, the application deadline for new TLDs passed 23:59 UTC 12 April 2012. I got this from the gTLD Applicant Guidebook Version 2012-01-11 PDF.

I was looking into doing this exact thing (kickstart a .js TLD) around the end of April only to find that I just missed the deadline. I don't know when the next application period would be open.

I hardly doubt that if you showed up with the money they would say "sorry we don't want your $180,000" - you gotta have a deadline to get things moving but don't let the fact that it passed stop you from trying.

No, by all means try, but I assume the response will most likely be that a second application windows will be opened at some point in the future. :-)

Yeah - I think the persistance plus a large group of us is what will really get their attention. We're not just a group of people, we're nerds with a mission.

From a reliable source: "JS is not a reserved ISO country code; so they are free to apply for it. They have 6 days left to apply because the ICANN TAS system closes on May 30th…so we will see!"

six days to raise 200k? oh boy.

That would surely be some record..

If you get the Kickstarter up today, you can feasibly do it. It'd be popular enough, and it's not unheard of for Kickstarter projects to make tens- and hundreds-of-thousands of dollars in under a week.

Funny, I'd been wondering why an entrepreneur hadn't gone out and registered a few TLDs like .js and such. Good to see this initiative!

@paulirish ... you haven't seen some of the crazy projects getting funding on kickstarter, have you?

@paulirish that's only 10,000 people donating the bare minimum. Kickstarter projects are famous for raising mad amount of money super fast. Week is plenty of time with a little help from people like you with lots of followers to get the word out.

Hey Everyone. The application process was delayed for more than a month due to a technical glitch. So the application deadline is now May 29, 2012.
Sometime in mid June ICANN will list the TLD for review on "Reveal Day".

Oh and as for the application fee. It only takes $5,000 to submit. But....$185,000 is due before the final review (assuming it's not disputed and get past the first round).

21 May 2012
The TLD Application System, or TAS, has reopened. All registered applicants can now log in, review and submit their applications.

The system will remain open until 23:59 GMT/UTC on 30 May 2012. Consistent with our previous practice and to allow the application window to open as soon as possible, two-hour maintenance windows have been scheduled as follows: 22 May at 16:30 GMT/UTC, 25 May at 23:00 UTC, and 29 May at 22:00 UTC.```

One final note.
Who's going to be the maintainer?
What _company_ is going to file for the js gTLD?
https://github.com/ozten/TLD.js/issues/24

.src +1
.js -1, since the length must be between 3-63 characters. Disputed applications cost $$$ money.

@LarryBattle That's great news! Sounds like that is enough time to settle on the name of the TLD.
