Tape noise loud and unnatural

Tape noise appears to be broken to me. I disabled the turbo function and enabled the tape noise, and the resulting sound is very loud and offensive. It does not sound like tape at all to me. This is using the latest Win32 build, so can anyone else confirm that they have the same issue?

I can confirm, but this is the same as in the old 1.2 release.
