For us, this was specifically an issue in WA where CTE001 excludes all of Puget Sound, whereas CTE501 has more fine-scale spatial resolution and includes two Puget Sound catch areas. WDFW wanted to include one of those at the very entrance to the sound.
Using CTE001 led to no issues in communication with CDFW.
However, the public and private versions of the length comp data from RecFIN contain different fields. The public version does not have some fields used to define trips and so we need the private version of the comp files.
Assigning @brianlangseth-NOAA the task of updating the handbook to describe trip definitions for recreational comp data.
@okenk noted this for yellowtail, that catches differed depending on whether CTE001 (public) or CTE501 (private) was used.
Confirm values are the same, and if not, choose which to use for estimates.
