2019

This was the first year that VASTWestCoast was available to standardize the running of VAST for U.S. West Coast assessments.

2021

In August, VASTWestCoast was updated to work with the newest version of VAST. The following issues were noted when changing from packages that were available April of 2019.

  • Christine Stawitz noted that TMB changed in July of 2020 to use TinyAD instead of CppAD.
  • Cole Monnahan noted that the way sample.int() was changed in R 4.0.1 led to different seeds, and thus a different kmeans than previous versions of R.
  • startpar was added in tmb_fit, though I am not sure if this change led to any actual changes b/c the default value of NULL leads to using obj$par, but nevertheless, I saw differences in the starting values in parameter_estimates.txt when running VAST on 2020-08-13 compared to in 2019.
  • some of us at the NWFSC are running models on Linux while others are running on Windows, this could lead to differences
