need help w/infinite terrain

so im trying to make a minecraft clone and im trying to get infinite terrain working but its so slow or glitchy, any ideas?

i tried making it generate terrain with the x and z coordinates of the user but sometimes it would generate too far
i tried running it constantly and it was laggy (kinda obvious)
