Dynamic Directory Path (Possible?)

Hey!
I am new to PHP and want to learn more about it. I started to use the tinyfilemanager and it's a very nice tool to work with!

My Question right now is (I am sitting on it several hours to understand why it doesn't want to work):

Is it possilbe to add a variable (for example $company) to the directory path?

$company = "test";
$directories_users = array(
'TestUser' => 'SomePath/'.$company
);

Path which was opened: "SomePath/"
Path which should be opened: "SomePath/test"

Why doesn't it take the value of $company and add it to the path?
In my Research i think, that it is because of AJAX. Can you maybe explain why this doesnt work?

Solution of the task:
I created an additional PHP page and used it to access my database, saved the root path to be called via a session and then appended the name to the $root_path variable via the session.
