Drop Test Procedures

Common Setup

Start with the Avionics Stack on the rocket cart and batteries charged.

  1. Verify that there are no spurious cables attached, and all flight cables are in place except for Battery and Dev Umbilical
    • All cables should have Retaining Nuts attached
    • Cable lengths should be secured to the Avionics Frame as if for flight
  2. Attach the Dev Umbilical Cable
  3. Attach the Flight Battery Cable and related Retaining Nuts
  4. Verify RNH powers up (green blinking LED)
  5. Attach Shorepower
  6. If doing a full droptest proceed to section Droptest, else proceed to section Pretest

Pretest (baseline)

  1. Verify section Common Setup has been followed
  2. After RNH powers up use fc-test to power on all ports.
    • See Rocket Cart Procedures
  3. After FC boots ssh to the FC as root
  4. Git pull the FCF repo
  5. Build the FCF for flight
  6. Clean the log directory
  7. Critical section start
  8. Start the FCF code
  9. Verify FCF is logging and telemetry is streaming to the telemetry viewer
  10. Detach shorepower and remove the Dev Umbilical Cable
  11. Wait for some time
  12. Gently wiggle the cart as a time marker
  13. Wait for some time
  14. Reattach the Dev Umbilical Cable
  15. ssh into the FC
  16. Stop the FCF
  17. Copy log file to laptop, check into Launch-11/droptest, push to github
  18. Critical section end
  19. Proceed to section Common Shutdown

Droptest

  1. Verify section Common Setup has been followed
  2. Set up as much drop tower as possible, so we can drop as soon as FC stack is running
  3. Remove FC from cart and place in drop test enclosure
  4. Place test rig in drop tower
  5. Use fc-test to power on all ports
  6. After FC boots ssh to the FC as root
  7. git pull the FCF repo
  8. Build the FCF for flight
  9. Clean the log directory
  10. Critical section start
  11. Start the FCF code
  12. Verify FCF is logging and telemetry is streaming to the telemetry viewer
  13. Remove the dev umbilical cable and shorepower
  14. Follow droptower procedures for countdown, drop, and recovery
  15. Reattach the dev umbilical cable
  16. ssh into the FC
  17. Stop the FCF
  18. Copy log file to laptop, commit into Launch-11/droptest, push to github
  19. Critical section end
  20. Proceed to section Common Shutdown

Common Shutdown

  1. Reattach shorepower
  2. Remove from droptower
  3. Shutdown the FC
  4. Power down all ports
  5. Disconnect the battery
