Performance: When does the connection open?

I want to have connections to the database as short as possible, when needed in my application. In a FastAPI app, when I initiate client like this:

client = AsyncQdrantClient(url) 


def route():
   client.upsert(...)

Does the connection open before running in route, or should I use it as a context manager like this:

def route():
    async with AsyncQdrantClient(url) as client:
        client.upsert(...)

Or maybe there is a better method than these two?
