How about having a mention system ?
We could ping others with @people, and it would (it's just an idea) blink a "@xyz pinged you" on your own twab page.
I was thinking that we could use firebase to achieve this, and do this with a script to include in the front, so any implementation of twab could hook to this.

What do you think ? Any ideas / suggestions ?

In my opinion, there is two things to solve firt:

  • Do we really need a notification system, if yes do we really need it as we already know it, is there a possibility to think ”out of the box”?
  • We need to precise what makes the twabber’s identity: an URL, a user name, or both? What if two twabbers are named @people?

Using firebase will centralise data, not sure it is a good idea.
Idea: Trackbacks can be used as notification?
I know I don’t answer to anything here :) let’s keep this conversation going on. Maybe @bpierre can help.

You're right, twab is not twitter.
But I'm still trying to figure out if twab should be somewhere you write down anything you want, and anyone can check on it, real-time or not, or if it should also be a "social-media", thus including someway of socialisation in it ...
Also, I agree about centralisation, as what make twab so cool and peculiar is its very volatile aspect.

Maybe using domains ? @example.com being http://twab.example.com/.
