Two routes of monetization, both can coexist:

Patreon

  • A certain contribution level gets you a custom prefix in the game (ie, your name - Eric's, Derek's, Kyle's, etc)
  • A monthly delivery of the IRL currency ("gems" probably) proportional to your tier

In App Purchases

  • All in-app purchases should buy quantities of gems. Gems can be spent on in-game upgrades.

Gem Store Upgrades

  • Improved monster engagement range (maybe +50 or 100%) for X days (7 or 28)
  • Custom App Themes (including custom icon changes for stuff like the player icon)
  • Item Find Bonus Booster (lasts 1 day, starting when it's used)
  • XP Gain Booster (lasts 1 day, starting when it's used)
  • Gold Gain Booster (lasts 1 day, starting when it's used)
  • Killstreak booster
  • Hero boosters (itemfind+xpgain+goldgain)
  • More inventory space (permanent)
  • Better Carrier Pigeon (you can sell things for more money from your inventory)

Note: Buying boosters in a 5-pack (instead of singular) would be cheaper, gem-wise, than buying 5 separately.

External possibilities:

  • geocaching swag (pins, badges, etc) and other merch sold in a store like shopify
  • Allow companies to advertise items from their respective shops (sales, discounts, etc) - they pay a small fee to get an "ad" featured on their shops

Crowdfunding:
