Any idea what the unlabeled part is? #1

Looking over the schematic, it appears there's an unlabled 8 pin part. does there happen to be a part number on the chip?

Not sure if you got your answer yet, but it sort of seems like that chip regulates the PWM for the laser or the spindle.

It's just a guess, but that's what I think it might be.

It's just a guess, but that's what I think it might be.

mmm i don't think so.. the pin mapping doesn't line up, and there's no need for a dedicated PWM IC, as it's created by the micro-controller... I'm wondering if it's not like a dual package mosfet or something... but i'm not sure, i've never seen VCC on pin 2 in an 8pin package before... Wonder if it was mis-measured shrugs
