VectorSource not rendering from tilejson or url template

I'm trying to view a tile dataset made in maptiler... I've tried using both the url prop pointing to the tiles.json string, and also the url template pointing to the .pbf endpoint.

The only error message is in Xcode giving me:

Failed to get datasets from URL template

The map renders just fine, but just lacks the maptiler vectors.

I'm using mapbox v10
