Installer hangs when downloading openjdk

I'm able to progress through the installer until the section where it downloads OpenJDK8, where it gets stuck. I'm able to manually download the file using the link in the terminal output. I've tried placing the file manually in the tmp directory it expects as well but it doesn't change anything.

Expected Behaviour: Installer downloads OpenJDK8 successfully and creates MO2 prefix.

Observed Behavior: Installer gets stuck in OpenJDK8 installer

seems to be a repeat of this issue, switched the download backend to curl and downloads work now
