Could somebody please tell me how to compile this? I am a big fan of reproducible builds and would like to make my own.

My question too. I want to install a mod which requires the replacement of certain files. In order to do this, I would need to recompile this APK with the new files. It's a shame he doesn't provide an actual project to import into an ide.

Please do not necro old issues with a non-answer. The question was on how to compile the project. Instead of assuming the issue author is ignorant and doesn't know that the Releases section exists (this is known as acting in bad faith), assume that the author specifically wants to know what they asked for, and nothing else
