Talk Title:
Temperature check: How are we feeling today?
Talk Description:
The skin protects by being a net of pores. It practices its durability by being passed through.
Temperature Check is a narrative that delves into the wandering thoughts of a person and their conflicted intactness. The story revolves around a day in R’s life as a web knitter, where the repetitive labor of production leads her to experience her daily life in an almost hysterical manner. From being an assemblage of her belongings to being permeated gradually by random encounters, the persistence of a self flows out of herself; she flows out of herself. This mind shift materializes into a bodily reformation. R becomes a giant Chinese salamander breathing through rain-dampened skin.
In the story, the metaphor of a web is applied in various ways, bridging the story and the thoughts—the physics and the metaphysics. Hence, the story’s presentation follows the diverging pattern of narration, woven together by artifacts, poetry, creative writing, interactive illustration, and web development.
For the talk, I will give you a walk-through of both this project and my journey along with the project. https://tempcheckhowwefeelingtoday.netlify.app/ (please allow all pop-up windows to enjoy the full experience~)
