Authentication via authnc is often very slow

I saw in the plugin description that this can be the case. I expected 1 or 2 seconds which might by ok, but I often experience 10 seconds or even more.

Can you provide more informations?
My test instance is a current dw in the hogfather version and nextcloud with version 21.
The login is not really fast but within 1 to 2 seconds.
Getting the list of all users requires the plugin to download the information of the user one after the other which takes
long depending of the number of users (enabled and disabled).
