There are five common categories of books that are proving something of a headache to identify:
Bibles
Books of Common Prayer
First and Second Book of Homilies
Books of Occasional Prayer
Liturgical Books Queen Mary's Reign
All the books purchased under these headings were required purchases. Because they were required texts, there are multiple editions and only in cases where we have detailed Transactions or detailed Inventories are we able to indentify what kind of text - folio, quarto etc; or dates; or precise editions
Would it be possible in our list of Books to create these five categories (possibly others as we enter more data) as 'catch-all' terms which would then prompt a further descriptive term, from the least detailed such as 'Unknown edition' to the most detailed which would be a specific edition of a text which can be identified using the English Short Title Catalogue?
I can see that, provided the entries are consistent, already permits this kind of hierarchy, but I'm guessing that if we create it now, it might prove most efficient.
The attached screenshot shows the current listing of Special forms of prayer, which is one instance prompting this suggestion.
