Zoom...Is there a way to avoid picture moving every time I adjust zoom?

Sometimes I'm zooming in on a video and then use the alt+> or < key to move to the spot I want. If I increase or decrease the zoom it always moves back to the left. Then I have to use the alt key+> to get it back to where it was. I wondered if there might be any way for it to hold it's zoomed position instead of moving back to the original one every time I increase or decrease zoom. Thanks.
