I think it would be good to have definitions for the following

  • Queer
  • Nonbinary
  • Asexual & Aromantic
  • Allosexual & Alloromantic
  • Neurotypical/Neuroatypical
  • Body Positivity (or something relating to sizeism anyway - could also include fat shaming, siziesim, thin privilige)
  • Invisible Illness

I'm sure I'm missing some other ones, but I think these would make great additions to our shiny new glossary! :)

Possibly also useful terms to include, since this is supposed to be pretty 101-level and I can imagine these coming up in a lot of resources:

  • Stack ranking (on account of I only recently heard this term)
  • Sexual harassment
  • Sexual assault
  • Consent
  • Rape culture
  • Wage gap
  • Glass ceiling

(also, re: sexuality terms, should we also include gay/lesbian/bi/pan/etc., or are those ones common-parlance enough that we'd expect readers to know them?)

I was sort of on the fence about LGB. I think we might as well, for the sake of not assuming a base level of knowledge here.
Let's definitely also plan on adding

  • Gay
  • Lesbian
  • Bisexual
  • Pansexual

I think we don't need to get more detailed than that for the moment.

If folks want to use a set of resources to build these terms from, I'd be willing to share my presentations and "terms to know" handout, both modified from the Ally workshop built from Ada Initiative.

Love all of these suggestions! If we're including words about gender and sexual orientation, I'd also love to see us define:

  • Sex
  • Gender

What if I were to add a "Preferred Pronouns" to the glossary? Or should it be "Preferred Gender Pronouns (PGP)"? Or one entry for each?

It should just be "pronouns."
