'Waiting for server' time during calls to Swell

There's a lot of fluctuation in the speed which the server responds to the calls.

In the screenshot I was fetching products with a couple of filters applied. Sometimes this takes 200ms, sometimes I have to wait up to 3-4 seconds. How come?

We believe this is due to API infrastructure spread across multiple providers, which we are very close to solving by moving to a single cloud. After that we'll be digging deeper on overall API performance improvements.

Thanks @ericingram . Do you have any idea as when this move will be completed? We're having the same problem (our calls are coming from Europe).

I've sent this to Swell's support but haven't received any answer. We still can change our underlying e-commerce solution without breaking all that we've built already. But, as we're starting developing features involving coupons, stock, etc., we're really at a crossroads : should we continue with Swell or should we try something else?

@ericingram Can you tell more about what the future is? Can we expect some changes in August? We want to go live with a new shop next month, but it is most of the time too slow (1-3 seconds). That is crucially for category and product pages..

@leonkosterss we have several initiatives in progress still including improved server-side and client caching, and an EU-based API/database cluster, but in the meantime would recommend a specialized caching approach or static builds to avoid API calls as much as possible.

There is a major upgrade that is in progress with our master database that might still limit performance improvement, but our goal is to enable multi-region store support for all users eventually. Would be glad to have your input and feedback in the process.

Have you considered caching or static generation for primary pages?

At this point we have some more major changes to make before EU becomes available. Can't say exactly when, but you'll be on the list as soon as its ready.
