First I'd like to start off by saying that I'm incredibly grateful for your mod, as it's brought back the fun for me that I used to have with building in the older days of modded Minecraft!
In the Chisel mod, I used to heavily make use of the "Factory Block" - which was a metal, edge-to-edge, connected-texture block that could be used to make heavily industrial or otherwise grungey-looking factory builds.
Currently, in the Chipped mod, there are some blocks that appear to try to achieve the same aesthetic, but they use the concrete blocks as their base - which are quite highly saturated in colour, have a thick border and also don't support connected textures, leaving certain blocks like the Hazard, Warning, Bolted, Railed, Reinforced and Rusted Concrete Blocks (which I believe are trying to achieve what the Factory Block did) falling short of this goal.
The original Chisel blocks had a rather pale, un-saturated and often purple undertone (to the non-specifically coloured blocks) which was gorgeous and very close to brown.
For bases, you could make use of these under the following blocks:
Coal, Iron, Copper, Gold Blocks ("metal" blocks with similar colour variants)
Dripstone, Brick, Mud, Packed Mud, Mud Bricks, Terracotta Blocks (quite pale/desaturated in colour and should work well)
Granite, Diorite, Andesite (same reason as above)
Lodestone (has a nice grey to it)
