String art significantly predates Petros Vrellis, who was born in 1974. For example, this page has vintage stuff from the 60's - http://vintagegoodness.com/featured-collectible-vintage-string-art-70s-craft-series-1/ - including a Star Trek kit copyright 1978.

Awesome project, BTW! It's just that Vrellis didn't create and sell his idea to a Star Trek merchandiser when he was four years old. :-)
