As pointed out by Prof. Antony Unwin in a private mail, the following entry might be wrong/missing:
For the 1928 Tour, the official letour.fr website lists no rider with place 40 (but with place 39 and 41). Comparing with this source, it seems that the rider in my data set, the actual place 39 is missing (Fernand Fayolle) and the rider with place 39 was actually place 40.
Quoting Prof. Antony Unwin verbatim: "1958 was the first year that two riders got the same rank, so I just went up to 1957. You appear to be missing Charles Kippert, who finished 45th in 1914 and Edouard Teisseire who finished 48th in 1929."
