Story: As a user of the Break Timer app, I am often ill prepared when its pop up takes the center of the screen. I am usually in the middle of a different thought when a chime rings and a green circle pops up to force a decision. I now have a few quick seconds to make a choice of snoozing or skipping my break. I would like more notice to strategize and prepare for a break and/or finish my ongoing thought. I want a healthier routine to more intently and thoughtfully accept, skip, or snooze instead of feeling hasty and wishing to override my quick decision.

Proposed Solution: An additional pop-up is available at X minutes before a scheduled break. The pop-up shows a countdown to the break in a box at the top right of the screen (i.e. 05'00"). Here the options to snooze or skip appear below the countdown. I am now prepared to finish my thought, without rushing to decide my next actions with Break Timer. Once the countdown ends, the green circle appears as it always does but now with plenty of warning for the user.

Thank you all for your consideration. This app is lovely as-is. I hope someone with the skills called upon from this user story can make it even better.

#221 Seems to have a similar thought for a pop-up.

In merging these user stories, a countdown pop-up would have the ability to:

  • Start Break
  • Snooze
  • Skip

+1 on this idea. Here's a little more elaboration on my particular user story:

I often find myself startled by my break timer -- I'll be deeply focused and literally startled by the app showing up -- and also I'm very often not at a good stopping point. I have disabled all the skip+delay options because past experience show that when I have them enabled, if I give myself that bit of wiggle room I cheat :-). So mandatory breaks are a must, and work great for me. But a little additional warning would allow me time to prep a bit, as @noproblemguy describes.

Also want to say: thank you so much for this app, it's been a real miracle for me. I looked around for a donor link but couldn't find one. I'd love to "buy you a beer" as they say! <3
