Yes you are correct, this article does need some work it was created back when I had first started using Linux.

I will add a note to get this updated.

I have now updated the article to be more fitting for todays OS's and also removed the poor advice previously in the post.

ah cool, did not notice the article was from 2014 :-)
so you could use password + 2FA or pubkey? are you aware of a solution how to use pubkey+2FA but not on all accounts (for using ansible)?
